MTP / Abortion

Dhande Hospital is a government-approved MTP centre. Abortion is available at this hospital, performed by a qualified specialist in a safe, clinical environment.

Confidentiality: patient privacy is strictly maintained. All consultations and procedures are handled with complete discretion.

Types of Abortion

Medical Abortion

A medical abortion uses a combination of medications — mifepristone followed by misoprostol — to end a pregnancy without surgery. It is suitable in the early stages of pregnancy.

Advantages: no anaesthesia or surgical procedure required. Can be done in an early stage of pregnancy.

Medical abortion is not recommended for people who:

  1. Have anaemia or serious blood clotting disorders.
  2. Are allergic to the prescribed medications.
  3. Have an IUD (Copper T) in place — this must be removed first.
  4. Have an ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the uterus).

Suction Abortion (Vacuum Aspiration)

Suction aspiration is a short surgical procedure used to terminate a pregnancy. It is also used when medical abortion is incomplete or has failed.

Suction abortion is not advised for people who:

  1. Have a uterine abnormality that makes the procedure unsafe.
  2. Have blood clotting disorders.
  3. Have an active pelvic infection.

Dilatation & Evacuation (D&E)

D&E is a surgical procedure used for later-stage terminations. It is also indicated when foetal abnormalities are detected, or when the pregnancy poses a risk to the health of the mother. D&E is performed under anaesthesia by a specialist and is generally safe for women of all ages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is abortion safe at Dhande Hospital?

Yes. Dhande Hospital is a government-approved MTP centre. All procedures are performed by a qualified specialist (Dr. Neelima Dhande, MBBS, DGO) in a safe, clinical environment with appropriate equipment and post-procedure care.

Is my visit confidential?

Yes. Patient privacy is strictly maintained. Your consultation and any procedure are handled with complete confidentiality.

How soon can I return to normal activities after a medical abortion?

Most women can resume normal activities within a few days after a medical abortion, though rest is recommended for the first day or two. Suction procedures and D&E typically require 1–2 days of rest. Your doctor will give you specific guidance based on your procedure.

Will I need a follow-up visit?

Yes. A follow-up appointment is usually scheduled 2 weeks after a medical abortion to confirm it was complete. For surgical procedures, a check-up is arranged as advised by your doctor. Please attend all follow-up appointments.

Can I get contraception advice at the same visit?

Yes. We provide family planning counselling as part of MTP care and can help you choose a suitable contraceptive method if you wish. See our Family Planning page for more information.

For non-emergency visits, please always call and take appointment before coming to the clinic.
